What is an Autotest?
An Autotest is a Motor Sport discipline in which the driver attempts to set the best time possible around a course made up of cones or poles.
Grass Autotesting is an all-forwards event, reversing is not part of the test as it would be on a hard surface.
Competitors get a chance to drive each course a number of times, usually three with the best two times counting to your scores.
A number of courses will be attempted during the day. The lowest time taken will win FTD (Fastest Time of the Day).
There are two sub types, Autotest and Production Autotest. Competitors in Production must carry a passenger, Autotest must run solo.
Normally there will be different classes competing with each getting their own awards.
Basingstoke MC usually have classes such as:-
Front wheel drive cars less than 14'
Front wheel drive cars greater than 14'
Rear wheel drive
Specials
It depends on the event as to which are active.
Sounds complicated?, it can seem so, however in practice Autotesting is one of the simplest forms of motorsport which can be entered by just about anyone in any car.
